Movenpick Resort El Quseir: Sirena Beach
Nestled in a small city on Egypt’s Red Sea coast, the Movenpick Resort El Quseir is hours away from the tourist crowds. With its private beach and coral reef, and a stunning restaurant overlooking the sea, this 5-star resort is perfect for an intimate Valentine’s Day getaway.
Inspired by Nubian architecture, the Movenpick Resort El Quseir has airy, beige-colored rooms that are topped with domes to let the sea breeze circulate. Every room is different and blends in perfectly with the rugged curves of the desert. Terraces in some rooms offer stunning views of the sea.
There’s a swimming pool with beautiful sea views, but also an in-house coral reef and diving center where you can explore marine life without having to leave the resort. The historical bay with a 5,000-year-old history offers a diving experience you won’t find elsewhere.
The resort prides itself on its cult following and repeat visitors who come for diving, birdwatching or photography. The hotel’s Seagull’s Restaurant offers fine dining amid Nubian-style decor and an outdoor terrace overlooking the sea. Service is attentive yet unobtrusive.
The Movenpick Resort El Quseir is a laid-back yet refined property where couples can forget their daily routines to focus on their time together.

Olarro Lodges: Masai Mara Region
Olarro Conservancy is a breathtaking private reserve with 20,000 acres of land nestled in the Masai Mara region, Kenya. There are two lodges in the conservancy: Olarro Plains and Olarro Lodge – located 20 minutes away from each other. The all-inclusive luxury sister lodges offer private encounters with Kenya’s wildlife, romantic settings, and thrilling adventures – the perfect combination for an exciting romantic getaway.
What makes the Olarro lodges the ultimate romantic accommodation? For one, the rooms are luxurious private lodges that give you and your partner extra privacy. They are beautifully decorated, and no detail goes unnoticed.
At Olarro, safari tours could turn into a romantic adventure. Enjoy private game just for two. And at the end of the tour, the guide will set up a romantic picnic in the savannah for you two to take it all in and watch the sunset.
Even dinner time screams romantic at Olarro. In every meal, the manager will set up romantic dinner settings in different locations. On one night dinner may be candlelit by the pool, another may be in the bush under the starry sky, I could go on, but I would be spoiling the surprise for you. And for the ultimate romantic experience, rent a hot air balloon ride.
Oh, and the best part of your stay? Profits go into the animal conservancy effort!
No matter which lodge you decide to stay at, you are guaranteed a romantic experience of a lifetime at Olarro Conservancy. To learn more about this place, check out our blog post: Kenya Wildlife Safari Experience at Olarro.

Azura: Benguerra Island
Whilst your first response for Indian Ocean luxury resorts is probably the Maldives or the Seychelles, there is one spot along the eastern coastline of Africa which you may not have considered: Mozambique. Despite its 20th century civil war giving it a similar reputation to many countries in the region, the tropical waters along its coast are now flourishing as a luxury travellers destination. There are several spots along it which you can choose from, but one in particular which ticks all the boxes is the Bazaruto Archipelago.
With only a handful of luxury hotels on the islands, you can’t go wrong heading to Azura for the ultimate romantic escape. The short helicopter ride from the mainland will wow you with its crystal clear, turquoise waters, before arriving into paradise on Benguerra island.
The resort is dotted with a small number of private villas, all of which have a form of private pool or jacuzzi, as well as your own host who will tend to your needs throughout your stay. Whilst you are there, you can join one of the many daily activities, from diving or snorkelling the magnificent two mile reef, hiking the epic dunes or fishing for marlin and barracuda! Whatever your fancy, you can be sure to soak up the beautiful sun and enjoy your time in this epic Valentine’s spot!

Sossus Dune Lodge: Sesriem
The vast pristine sand dunes, like endless waves of red sand of Namib-Naukluft National Park are perfect for a romantic Valentine’s Day. What’s even better is the experience of watching sunrise and sunset on the magnificent red sand dunes. In order to enjoy the special moments one must stay in the luxurious Sossus Dune Lodge or go camping. The sunsets on the dunes and the lodge are vibrant colors of the rainbow and the night sky is magical.
The Sossus Dune Lodge is one of the Afro style luxury lodges by the Namibian tourism department. The decor is traditional Namibian, made with local supplies but the appointments and hospitality are modern and luxurious. Each accommodation has two spacious rooms/huts, one for sleeping and lounging and another that contains the bathroom, dressing area and toilet. Both rooms are panels with large grass windows looking out to the desert. There is also a spacious patio for enjoying the vast openness for as far as the eye can see.
The meals are cooked on site and served in the restaurant. While dinners are set menus, they accommodate for allergies and vegetarian food. The breakfast is a big African and continental spread and they also pack breakfast for early desert safari. Their guides are very knowledgeable and friendly for a wonderful desert safari.
Visiting Namibi is a bucket list item for many reasons, one of them is to experience the oldest red san dunes of the world.

Riboville (previously Tintswalo at Waterfall): Johannesburg
Found in the heart of Johannesburg’s northern district, Riboville (previously Tintswalo at Waterfall) provides the ultimate in luxury and romance on the boundary of the city. This 5-star boutique hotel is perfectly located within the prestigious Waterfall Equestrian Estate, in close proximity to the city and only a five-minute drive from the Mall of Africa.
A blend of urban luxury in a country setting, the double-volume barn design, echoes this setting with the equestrian-themed art and decor that only adds to the romance and ambiance. This then continues in the suites fitted with a king-sized bed, a lounge area, and a lavish bathroom. The rooms overlooking a lush polo field and tranquil dam, which attracts bird life all year round, makes mornings a delight and a perfect vantage point from which to enjoy those beautiful African sunsets.
Offering an outdoor pool, other facilities include walking trails and a spa, while the in-house Codfather restaurant serves good food in a romantic setting. If that’s not enough, there is a wine cellar offering the regions finest harvests. Riboville offers a unique rural respite from the stresses of city life.

I first saw a photo of the floating river lodges at Mandina in a book about 1001 Escapes To Make Before You Die. It was love at first sight, and for ten years, I dreamed of staying there deep in the heart of Makasutu Forest in The Gambia, West Africa. Finally, I had the chance to do just that through a work project, and it didn’t disappoint in any way. Mandina Lodges became my favourite place on earth.
A few year’s later, I was lucky enough to return on honeymoon. Sharing such a special place with my husband meant the world to me. The baboons of the forest came visiting just as we arrived and Neill’s face beamed as they walked straight by him.
Each afternoon we went out in a canoe with a guide and explored the waterways. We soon lost count of the many different birds we saw from the multi-coloured Malachite Kingfisher to the magnificent Goliath Heron. The staff at Madina were exceptional and remembered me from my previous visits. Being surrounded by nature with a view of the river from our four-poster bed lodge couldn’t have been more romantic. It was the perfect start to our West African honeymoon.

Perched at the top of a series of rust-coloured cliffs overlooking a secluded sandy cove, Ngala Lodge is a quirky boutique hotel in The Gambia, West Africa. Voted by TripAdvisor readers a few years ago as, one of the most romantic hotels in Africa, we indeed found it an idyll hideaway on our honeymoon.
Our suite at Ngala Lodge was spacious and bright with a massive four-poster bed and comfy sofas, white walls and splashes of colour from African textiles and works of art from the owner’s collection. We were welcomed with a bottle of champagne which we enjoyed in our Jacuzzi on our private terrace by a pretty flower-filled garden. We spent our days relaxing by the beach, pool or in a quiet corner in the tropical gardens or out exploring. Each evening, we dined in the hotel’s restaurant which looks out across the lawns, through the palm trees to the ocean. The sunsets were magnificent. And the food was superb and beautifully presented, living up to its reputation as the best restaurant in The Gambia.
However, it isn’t just the location, the food, the suites and the sunsets that make Ngala so special; it’s also the staff. They are so welcoming and friendly, quickly learning all the guests’ names. We loved it so much that, when we returned to The Gambia the following year, we added on a few days at Ngala Lodge and I’m sure it won’t be long before we are back again.
